Now after the morning News it's ...... AN EQUINOX

On Sunday March 20th is the night when daylight and night are equal, it's an Equinox! The sun is at the equator and it is heading our way! There is a bonus with the Equinox, so get your binoculars out and get ready to look up again.  As twilight begins the moon appears with in a large crescent form, but wait until twilight fades to night and that is when you want to start looking up.

The constellation Pleiades will be having a 'close encounter' with the moon. Pleiades is also known as the 'Seven Sisters', which are the stars Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygete, Celaeno and Alcyone and they are named after the daughters of the Greek God Atlas. When you get binoculars out, you will see that there are actually more than 7 sisters, it is actually a cluster of hundreds of stars of which only a handful are visible to the naked eye. In this show, which is free to us with binoculars (ew, I wish I had a telescope!) you will see that the edge of the moon will actually cover some of the clusters lesser stars.
